Week of September 5th: 2 hours
My first day starting at my practicum was mainly based on getting to now my supervisor, Leah Reynolds, a little bit better. Leah was able to relieve me of all my first day jitters. Since I was only at PACE for about two hours, we went over what would be expected of me during my time at PACE. Our conversation was also covered by all of my stories that I had from attending the Republican National Convention a few days prior.
Leah informed me of all the event that PACE would be hosting during the semester. One of which will feature me, based on a presentation to Salisbury on my time spent at the convention. I am excited about all the possibilities that I will have this upcoming semester, especially because PACE's mission is closely related to what I am most interested in; politics.

Week of September 10th: 12 hours
I have officially completed my first full week! Both of my days were mainly concentrated on compiling my information together for my presentation. During my days there, I also got more information on upcoming events and how I would be utilized.
Leah has been extremely supportive and helpful with the preparation of my presentation, as well as listening to my opinions based on the posters and flyers for the events.
This week has also been a little scandalous PACE had scheduled a debate with Congressman Andy Harris and his opponent Wendy Rosen. However, we found out that she dropped out of the congressional race due to allegations of voter fraud. Unfortunately, the debate will not be happening now.

Week of September 17th: 12 hours
This week still consisted of working on my presentation. However, Monday I worked from home and made revisions to my presentation. When I went in to work on Wednesday, I helped set-up the PACE voter registration booth on Red Square. PACE will have that voter registration table every Wednesday until October 10th.
PACE has a goal of having a 100% rate of students who are registered to vote. As a political junkie, who believes that political awareness is crucial, I find this goal to be a great way to start a change of an increased youth vote. As linked below, this is a poster that was put up on campus by PACE to encourage students to vote.
On the 21st, I had to opportunity to meet with the University of Maryland's Student Regent Steven Hershkowitz. Steven serves as a liaison to the University of Maryland system between the students and the board members. During the meeting, three other PACE students including myself, explained to Steven what PACE does and what it has achieved. I was able to explain to Steven that PACE had supported me to attend the Republican National Convention and take part in the educational and professional experience of a lifetime! From what Steven gathered from the missions and accomplishments of PACE, he will be able to relay what Salisbury University students are doing to be politically involved to all of the other Maryland colleges.

Leah went through the aesthetics of my PowerPoint this week. Since the presentation is getting close, she wants to make sure that everything looks professional and I am able to represent myself to the highest standard. Mixed in with my presentation, was also talk about the first PACE event: The Dream Act Forum, which will be Ballot Question 4 in Maryland this election day. We discussed briefly who was attending and somewhat familiarized ourselves with the panelists.
I think the forum will be a great chance for Salisbury students to have the rare opportunity of listening to both sides of an issue, rather than just hearing one side. Especially with an election this semester, it is crucial for Salisbury student to become more engaged and aware of what they are voting for. So many young people go to the polls uneducated about almost every topic. It is almost scary. I am honored and excited to help PACE throughout the semester to spread awareness of how important it is to be educated when it comes to election issues.

Week of October 1st: 14 hours
A fellow PACE staffer and myself time keeping for the forum.
Busy week! My presentation is next week, and I am definitely
feeling the pressure. However, it is comforting to know that I am lucky enough
to have Leah to bounce ideas off of and receive some constructive criticism
from. Although we have not rehearsed the presentation yet, Leah was again able
to help me by making sure that my PowerPoint slides were perfect and that all of the
information was included.
I have already learned so much about how to properly place information on to a slide. Leah really taught me also how to constantly think about my audience when it comes to presenting. Keep them entertained throughout the entire thing.
Wednesday was the Dream Act forum. During the day, there was a staff meeting where the format of the forum was discussed and what my role during it would be. Elaina, PACE's staff assistant, and myself would be timekeepers. Dr. Hoffman explained to us at what times we
would have to let the panelists know when they were almost out of time and when their time was up. I showed up in the Wicomico Room early to help setup the chairs, stage, and pass out material. By arriving early, I was able to learn from Leah how to make sure that during such a large event, people are able to clearly see everything that is important. I was also honored to be able to greet all of the panelists and attendees.

Week of October 8: 9 hours
Before I gave my RNC presentation.
Monday, I spent the entire day rehearsing my presentation for Leah, My first run through, I will admit it, was terrible. Over thinking all the information was creating a road block for me. Leah was there the whole day to just remind me that I know what I am talking about, I experienced it. It was my story to tell.
Tuesday night was my presentation. I was extremely pleased with myself. Dr. Allen, Dean Pereboom, Dr. Hoffman and Leah all seemed extremely happy with it. Now that my presentation is over means a couple things. One is that I am really excited about what my days in the office at PACE will consist of. And the second thing being that it felt like the weight of the world had been finally lifted off my shoulders!
Wednesday morning in the office was a short day. The student workers and I all completed the routine tasks that needed be, and then we were finished.
After my presentation, I really supervised myself with how confident I felt in front of a crowd giving such a long speech. That was my first time being in front of complete strangers and talking for that long. I believe in myself much more now to carry myself professionally in a room full of strangers. I strongly believe that it will help me in my future career endeavors.

Time keeping for the Constitutionality of Gay Marriage forum.
This week PACE hosted two events! On Monday, a forum was held on Constitution Day on the Constitutionality of Gay Marriage, which will be a referendum question on the Maryland ballot on November 6. Elaina and I were again responsible for timekeeping as well as greet all of the attendees. The forums that PACE provides to the university are great. It encourages students to become more engaged in their surroundings and hopefully gain some more knowledge and form their own opinions on issues that may be of importance to them.
Tuesday night was the second Presidential Debate and PACE hosted a viewing party in Fireside Lounge. Dr. Hoffman had set up a screen next to the television where he managed a polling system called www.pollseverywhere.com. Through this website, questions about the candidate's performances and answers were asked and the students texted in their answers. It was awesome to see so many students come out and not only watch the debate, but interact during it as well.
The office on Wednesday was crazy! It was confirmed that PACE will be co-sponsoring a Maryland Senatorial debate. This will be the first debate that the candidates of this race has had. During the work day, a lot of planning and preparations were made and confirmed. The debate is a marvelous event for Salisbury and PACE to help sponsor. Candidates will be able to let their message be heard to the students, which I personally think is important. I am so grateful that I will be playing a role in bringing the candidates to Salisbury and participate in working the event.

Week of October 22nd: 18 hours
Possibly the most busiest and tiring weeks I have had during my time here at PACE. We continued to plan for the senate debate. The media list is continuing to grow, which is so thrilling to see because of my career dream of working with the media. It is also so exciting to see Salisbury University being the host site of this debate. Events like these can really help promote political awareness to students, which is one of the missions at PACE. Ways in which we planned for the debate were that Leah told us again exactly what the stage will be set up like, the time frame of the debate and what each of the student interns would be doing. Leah assigned me to be a student ambassador to Dan Bongino, who is the Republican candidate running. I could not be anymore excited, not only am I in support of him, but I met him at the RNC and we are from the same town! My responsibility as a student ambassador is I will be there for Mr. Bongino if he needs anything or wants to know anything about Salisbury. I am truly honored that Leah has placed this responsibility with me.
The World Cafe Event was also hosted Monday evening. I helped set up all 30 small tables and chairs with the decorations. Leah was once again able to give me insight on how to properly set up for an event, depending on the amount of people. Along with setting up the event, I also served as a "Table Host". This event was created for people all over the Eastern Shore of all professions to have small conversations about the environment and the water quality. My purpose, was to sit at the table and welcome guests and make sure that the conversations were running smoothly. I definitly learned a lot about what exactly is going on on the Eastern Shore and how it affects everyone differently.

Week of October 29: 5 hours
Such a depressing week! Although classes were canceled for a couple of days due to Hurricane Sandy, the debate had been canceled. Everyone at PACE was really disappointed that we were not able to host the debate. We had put in a tremendous amount of planning and work to pull off the debate in a pretty short amount of time. It was also disappointing because we all knew with how close it is to the election that we would not be able to reschedule it.
On Wednesday, we had a staff meeting. It was basically Dr. Hoffman and Leah thanking all of us for our hard work this semester. There weren't any big events coming up so they wanted to take the time to thank us and go over what we did throughout the semester. Plans for next semester were also talked a bit about. I must say, I was a little sad that I was not going to be here with them!
During my time at PACE, I learned a tremendous amount. I understand how much work can go into hosting events. I have gained a valuable set of new skills from event planning to public speaking. And I was happy to help spread awareness about registering to vote, campaign issues, and just the advice to be politically informed.
